The most important facility of a public library is to provide a reading-room having with newspapers and periodicals. These documents are made available to them. These are significant for the readers, who have not afford to purchase nor have other means of gaining access to current information and recreation. Although with the rise in the standard of living and the development of mass media and T.V. etc. the importance of public reading rooms has declined a bit yet these provide a useful place where we find all current newspapers and magazines and an atmosphere congenial to read.

The library, Newspaper and Magazine/ Reading Section with a sitting capacity of more than two hundred provides reading room facilities to a variety of readers who bring their books and reading materials for self-study. The perfect reading environment for students in the reading room can only be experienced by visiting this section. All the time it is packed with readers. This section is a big attraction of the library. This is a unique feature, which is not found in any other public library in Chandigarh.

In this section, files of a Newspaper clipping, latest employment notices, admission notices and other information of interest to the public are also maintained. Approximately 1250 persons visit this Section every day. Library subscribes to ­­­­32 newspapers and 66 periodicals.
